Hello Rabeb, can you tell us about your background and your arrival at Astek Canada as a Quality Analyst?
Yes, of course! I completed all my studies in Tunisia. There are some differences between degrees in Quebec and Tunisia: I obtained my baccalaureate (which is equivalent to the end of high school here) and then applied to my dream university. Unfortunately, I was not accepted at first, so I had to enroll in another school to complete a diploma in computer science, networks, and telecommunications.
At that time, there were entrance exams for engineering schools. I tried again and was finally admitted to my dream university. I earned my engineering degree after 6 years of study. After that, my career started in a multinational company in Tunisia as a Quality Analyst in test automation. I then spent a few years in another company, which allowed me to broaden my skills in both manual and automated testing.
My partner and I had always planned to move to Canada. When an Astek Canada recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, I immediately seized the opportunity. Everything happened very quickly: I received the offer in April 2019, and by September I was in Montreal. I have now been working for two years as a Quality Analyst consultant, and I am also a department manager.
Can you tell us more about your role as a department manager at Astek Canada?
Astek Canada has experienced significant growth and is welcoming more and more consultants. Despite this, the company promotes closeness and a strong sense of belonging, even when consultants are working on assignments at client sites. The creation of departments addresses this need. My role consists of supporting and guiding consultants in their careers. Building a relationship of trust is my priority so they feel comfortable both with the client and within Astek.
What do you enjoy most about your role as department manager?
It is the opportunity to build relationships with extraordinary people. I feel privileged to be their point of contact and to support them in different ways. Since Astek has a strong international presence, I meet people from all over the world in a multicultural environment. I learn a lot every day, which is a great source of motivation.
You seem to enjoy this role—do you plan to continue in it?
Definitely. I was hesitant at first because I had never managed a team, but I truly enjoy this part of my job. I feel valued in this “leader” role. In the future, I would love to grow into a “Tech Lead” position in my area of expertise. It would be a great challenge for a future assignment.
Can you tell us about Rabeb outside of work? What are your passions?
I am a very simple person! I love watching movies and series of all genres. Every weekend, I also organize a small hike around Montreal with my friends and family. I enjoy spending time outdoors and appreciating beautiful landscapes.
Finally, do you have a message for someone who would like to join Astek Canada?
The human side of the company, without hesitation! Astek Canada places great importance on relationships. I often tell candidates that I feel like part of a big family. Beyond the professional aspect, this human value is a major benefit. I therefore highly recommend Astek Canada!
